A little bit of History

William G. Sutherland discovered the concept of CranioSacral Therapy in the early 1900s. He saw that the bones of the skull were designed to move in relationship to each other. Based on his personal experiences he developed a system for examination and treatments for the skull.

What is CanioSacral Therapy?

Today we know that the CranioSacral rhythm is caused by the increase and decrease of cerebrospinal fluid produced and reabsorbed at a regular rate within and around the central nervous system and in the spinal cord.
A CranioSacral practitioner can feel and palpate this subtle rhythm (6-12 cycles/min.) easiest at the bones of the skull, sacrum, and coccyx (tailbone). But this rhythm can be felt and treated throughout the whole body.
CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle non-intrusive manipulative technique; the pressure applied is from 5 grams to half a pound, meaning that there is very little pressure used to tune into the mechanism and regulate the rhythm.

Very often thorough screening and evaluation for asymmetry or unbalanced motion can already erase restrictions and help the body to self-correct.

Finding unbalanced motion, especially when related to the head and sacrum, suggest that normal body functions may be disturbed and symptoms developed.

CranioSacral Manipulation helps reestablish the body’s motion with gentle, non-intrusive correct-ion techniques, thus assisting the body to return to normal function. The receiver feels this all more likely as just placing hands, yet the results can be very profound.
